존 클라센 & 맥 바넷

포스트모던 그림책의 대표 작가 존 클라센과 맥 바넷은 데뷔 초기부터 칼데콧 상, 케이트 그린어웨이 상, 보스턴 글로브 혼북 상을 수상하며 큰 주목을 받았습니다. 간결한 표현, 열린결말, 메타픽션, 파라텍스트 등 작가들의 작품에서 많이 나타나는 포스트모던 그림책의 특징들은 독자를 작품 속으로 끌어들여 상상을 펼치게 하고, 능동적인 감상자로써 그림책의 일부로 참여하게 합니다. 작가가 직접 출연하는 재미있는 트레일러 영상, 북 투어, 소셜미디어 라이브 방송 등 두 작가는 그림책 출간 이외에도 적극적인 방식으로 독자와 소통합니다. 영국 내셔널 시어터의 연극, 애플 TV 애니메이션 시리즈와 같이 그림책 작품을 확장한 다른 분야와의 협업 결과물도 흥미롭습니다. 이번 《존 클라센 & 맥 바넷》 전시에는 두 작가의 첫 작품부터 발간 예정인 신작까지의 작품 전반에 대한 아이디어 스케치, 친필원고, 원화, 연계 프로젝트들을 국내 최초로 선보입니다. 전시실 1에서는 존 클라센이 쓰고 그린 그림책의 작품과 맥 바넷이 글을 쓴 그림책의 작품이, 전시실 2에서는 두 작가가 협업해 만든 그림책과 관련된 작품이 전시됩니다. 전시에서는 작품 관람과 함께 드로잉, 글쓰기, 만들기, 연극놀이, 극장놀이를 통해 작가들의 작품 속으로 들어가 주인공 역할을 해 볼 수 있기도 하고, 작가의 시선에서 글과 그림을 다시 보게 됩니다. 작가들이 포스트모던 그림책을 통해 우리를 그림책 속으로 끌어들인 것처럼, 이번 전시는 또 다른 방식으로 관람객과 소통하며 그림책을 새롭게 경험하게 하며 더 많은 이야기들을 만들어낼 것입니다.

MOKA Art Collection for Kids 어린이를 위한 아트 컬렉션 12

현대어린이책미술관MOKA의 작가 지원 프로젝트인 '언-프린티드 아이디어'는 1~3회 전시를 거치며 총 41명의 그림책 작가와 함께 했습니다. 그중 12명의 작가가 어린이를 생각하며 자신의 작품 한 장면을 꼽았습니다. 우리 아이의 첫 아트 컬렉션이 될 그림 한 점은 아이의 공간에 함께 하며 이야기하고, 꿈꾸게 하며, 휴식을 줄 것입니다. 이번 전시 < MOKA Art Collection for Kids 어린이를 위한 아트 컬렉션 12 > 에서 12개의 각기 다른 이야기가 담긴 작품을 감상하고, 나만의 이야기를 상상해 보세요. 작가들의 작품을 이리저리 조합해 큰 조각을 만들기도 하고, 가상공간 속 아바타를 만들어 색다른 방법으로 작품을 감상해 볼 수도 있습니다.

《곰곰이와 찬찬이》

무심코 보면 놓칠 수 있지만, 곰곰이 그리고 찬찬히 집중해서 보면 발견할 수 있는 ‘작은 것’! 이번 전시에서 ‘작다’라는 의미와 연결되는 네 가지의 단어를 현대 미술 작품에서 찾아봅니다. ‘조그맣다’, ‘좁다랗다’, ‘나직하다’, ‘촘촘하다’. 함진 작가의 작품을 돋보기로 확대해 보고(조그맣다), 이경미, 차민영 작가의 작품을 틈 사이로 들여다보고(좁다랗다), 김영섭 작가의 작품의 소리에 귀를 기울이고(나직하다), 강보라 작가의 작품을 채우고 있는 것을 자세히 관찰해 봅니다(촘촘하다). 깊이 생각하는 ‘곰곰이’와 꼼꼼한 ‘찬찬이’를 친구로 삼아, 몸의 많은 감각을 사용하는 능동적이고 적극적인 관람 행위를 통해 재미있고 새롭게 현대 미술을 이해하는 방법을 만나보시기 바랍니다.

4회《언-프린티드 아이디어》

한 권의 그림책을 만들기 위해, 작가는 많은 이야기를 만들고, 많은 그림을 그립니다. 그렇게 오랜 시간 쌓인 작업 과정은 그림책으로 만들어져 많은 사람들의 손과 눈에 닿습니다. 하지만 아쉽게도 모든 좋은 아이디어들이 그 결과에 이르지는 못합니다. 현대어린이책미술관 MOKA의 언-프린티드 아이디어 전시는 아직 사람들에게 닿지 못한 작품들을 찾아 전시실로 꺼내, 작품 원화, 작업 과정, 더미북을 전시하고, 작품과 연계된 공간 경험과 체험 활동으로 작품을 더욱 깊이 감상할 수 있게 합니다. 또한 관람객과 작가가 소통하는 공간을 통해 그림책에 대한 생각을 공유하고, 그림책을 향한 작가들의 열의를 응원합니다. 4회를 맞은 이번 전시에서 ‘친구’, ‘자연과 사람’, ‘글이 없는 그림책’을 주제로 한 7 작가의 그림책을 소개합니다. 2017년 1회 전시 이후 1~3회 언-프린티드 아이디어 전시가 지나온 여정, 참여 작가와 다시 만나 진행한 프로젝트들도 함께 선보입니다. 그림책과 세상의 즐거운 첫 만남이 다시 한번 시작됩니다.

《MOKA 북아트 컬렉션》

현대어린이책미술관 MOKA는 첫 번째 소장품 전시를 선보입니다. 2015년에 개관한 MOKA는 ‘책의 형태’와 ‘예술성’이라는 두 가지 키워드 안에서 국내외 작가들의 ‘북아트(Book Art)’ 작품을 수집해 왔습니다. 책(Book)과 예술(Art)의 결합어인 ‘북아트’는 책의 구조적이고 개념적인 특징을 반영한 예술 작품을 의미합니다. 이야기나 정보를 글과 그림으로 담고 있는 책의 형태와 작가의 아이디어가 특정한 재료로 표현되는 예술의 특징이 만나, 두 경계가 모호하면서도 독특한 작품이 됩니다. 두 개념의 결합은 텍스트나 이미지를 포함한 아티스트북, 또는 책의 형태를 표현한 조각, 그리고 과정 자체가 작업이 되는 개념미술이나 퍼포먼스로 나타납니다. 이번 전시는 MOKA 소장품 50여 점을 ‘숨겨진 이야기’, ‘이상한 물체’, ‘펼쳐지는 공간’, ‘딴짓 실험실’이라는 4가지 주제로 선보입니다. 전시의 4가지 주제는 읽어야 하는 이야기를 찾는 방식, 물성에 대한 탐구, 작품 안과 밖의 공간, 그리고 작품과의 상호작용까지 북아트의 다양한 갈래와 감상 방식을 다룹니다. 《MOKA 북아트 컬렉션》을 통해 책을 예술로 바라본 작가들의 독창적인 시선을 만나고, 책이 가진 무한한 가능성을 경험해 보시기 바랍니다.

이수지작가 - 춤을 추었어 Danced Away

『춤을 추었어』는 음악과 춤과 아이를 주인공 삼아 아날로그와 디지털 세계 사이를 연결하는 그림책입니다. 악보와 음표에서부터 시작하는 열여덟 개의 장면들은 무곡 <볼레로 Bolero>와 함께 움직이는 그림이 되고, 아이가 친구들을 만나 춤을 추며 나아가는 이야기로 쌓여갑니다. 전시실 안에 울려 퍼지는 음악과 함께 이수지 작가의 원화 작품을 감상하며, 이 아름답고 슬픈 춤의 여정을 따라가 보아요.
